Covid Kickball Protocols

KICKBALL IN THE TIME OF COVID

We are all eager to get back to some form of normalcy and social sports is a step in the right direction. We are not doing this without caution though. CASL has worked with the town, read insight from the state, keeping eye on the numbers, and spoken with other leagues across the country. While we are ready to get back in the game, we are doing so with a lot of caution. We are starting with strict rules and we will evaluate throughout the season any adjustments that might be required

These are the rules that we have come up with to have all parties involved feel as safe as we can in these times.

TEAM ROSTERS: Teams will be limited to a max of 11 people per team. This is to keep the total group on the field to be under 25, with a little room for a couple spectators off to the side.

BEFORE THE GAME: Each player will check in with their captain or a league organizer before the game. This check in might be electronic or via paper. EVERYONE must check in. We need to have your updated email and phone number to participate. This check in is to answer the following questions:

1.Have you had contact with anyone that you know has been diagnosed with COVID-19? Contact is defined as being within 6 feet (2 meters) for more than 15 minutes with a person, or having direct contact with infectious fluids from a person with confirmed COVID-19 (for example being coughed or sneezed on).

2.Have you had a positive-COVID test for active virus in the past 10 days?

3.Do you have of these symptoms that you cannot attribute to another condition?â?¢Fever or chillsâ?¢Cough â?¢Shortness of breath or difficulty breathingâ?¢Fatigueâ?¢Muscle or body achesâ?¢Headacheâ?¢Recent onset of loss of taste or smellâ?¢Sore throatâ?¢Congestionâ?¢Nausea or vomitingâ?¢Diarrhea

If you answer yes to any of the above questions, DO NOT ATTEND THE GAME. Please remain home and get yourself tested.

EQUIPMENT:

-Each team will have their own ball to use when fielding. Please do what you can to keep it as sanitized as possible between innings
-Each team will have sanitizer on their bench. We do not want a full league sanitizer to minimize touch, but I will provide a bottle to each team for the season if needed.

SOCIAL DISTANCING and MASKS:

-A mask must be worn whenever you cannot keep the recommended 6 feet distance from another person.
-Certain positions must always wear a mask. First base, Pitcher, and catcher.
-All players must have a mask ready to put on at all times, if you are in a situation where you will be within 6 feet of a player, the mask must be worn. I.e Runner on 2nd base the 2nd baseman and short stop must wear a mask.

SUBSTITUTES:

We are keeping this to a minimum this season. All subs must be approved in advanced and checked in with that team. If someone from outside the league, they must be approved before arrival at the field. They will need to do the waiver and all contact information must be provided.

OTHER RULES:
-
There will be no post-game handshakes or high fives through the game
-Fielders must avoid being in the baseline even more so than usual. If a play is not there to be made, give the runner some extra space
-No sunflower seeds or spitting of any kind
-No shared team water bottles
-If you touch the ball during an inning, take the opportunity to sanitize your hands
-No loitering at the field. We cannot have more than 25 people on the fields, so please move off after your game is completed.

CONTACT TRACING:

The pregame check in and contact information is extremely important. This will be used in the situation of someone from the league tests positive. We will know who they played with and who they played against. This will allow us to be able to properly get in contact with every person potentially exposed as quickly as possible. We will also notify the entire league as well.

SUMMARY:

I know this is not the normal time we have had at kickball. We know people have different comfort levels for how to remain safe during this time, so please keep in mind that following these rules are so that we all have the best chance of remaining safe and that the more conservative player feels comfortable in the league.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank You, Shaun Conway
